About Us
We specialize in working with a diversity of grains, including spelt, kamut, buckwheat, rye, oats and heritage wheats. Our breads are slow fermented and made with whole grains, so whether or not you are choosing a wheat free loaf, expect the best quality bread and baked goods that will serve your body nutrition and your spirit deliciousness.
Originally renting kitchen space in Halifax, the bakery now operates out of its own wood fired oven micro-bakery space in Scotch Village, located in Hants County. We use slab wood from a local mill as fuel for the oven.
We also curate a small collection of eastern canadian and european cheeses. We wholesale and retail these fine, small scale created artisan cheeses. We carry sheep, cow and goat cheeses.
Oh yeah, and we make a cool selection of jams, preserved fruits and tomatoes and hot sauces unlike the rest inspired by annual harvests from small farms in Mi'kma'ki. We use only unsprayed fruits and vegetables and can with glass. Please save your jars and return them to us!
If you read this far, I'm sorry to say production is on hold for now. But if you are exploring this page because you are interested in becoming the next owner of Gold Island Bakery- please reach out and perhaps this gives you some insight into the unique nature of this micro-bakery.
